All the pets compared

How we chose them: the 20 most registered breeds in the United States in 2025 (American Kennel Club), plus the Border Collie and the Shiba, 16 breeds that are very common in Europe (from the Great Dane to the Chihuahua) and four Italian breeds: the Neapolitan Mastiff, the Italian Greyhound, the Lagotto Romagnolo and the Maremma Sheepdog. For Italy we couldn’t find a readable ranking from ENCI, the Italian kennel club.
